Karnataka’s legal fraternity is one of the best in the country said the newly appointed Karnataka Chief Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka while speaking at a ceremony held to welcome him by the Karnataka State Bar Council and the Advocates’ Association, Bangalore (AAB) on Monday.

He also appealed to the legal fraternity to give him support and time to acquaint himself with the new environment. “Like a batsman takes some time to adapt to the pitch while playing on away grounds, I have also moved to a new ground and will take time to adapt to this environment,” he said.

He also said that he has moved from a beautiful and heritage place like Bombay High Court to another historical and beautiful place Karnataka High Court.

AAB in its statement said “Justice Oka is popular with the younger generation of the legal fraternity and is known to encourage junior members of the bar. Also, over the years from appearing in various public interest litigations as a lawyer to passing several pro-environment landmark judgments as a judge, he has dealt with a wide variety of issues that affect the civil rights of citizens.”

The event was attended by the office-bearers of the advocates’ bodies and other members of the state legal fraternity.
