A daily-wage cleaner woman was killed as she was hit by an oncoming train at the Kalaburagi railway station, on Wednesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Anshu Bai, a safai karmachari hired on a contract basis. She was a resident of Buddha Nagar in Kalaburagi city.
Railway police told DH that Anshu Bai, along with three other workers, was cleaning the tracks on platform-three at around 8.45 am. The Mumbai-bound Udyan Express arrived at the platform and ran over her.
“Anshu Bai panicked and tried to climb up to the platform from the tracks, but failed. She was run over by the train,” police added.
Ambulance delayed
The injured Anshu Bai was hauled up to the platform, but couldn’t be rushed to the hospital as the ambulance arrived late. She was later shifted to the district hospital where she succumbed.
Two others safe
The other two women who were cleaning the tracks along with the victim Anshu Bai managed to get out of the way of the train. They were not injured, police added.
Anshu Bai had come to work on Wednesday after an absence of 15 days. Wadi police have registered a case of unnatural death.
Services unaffected
Speaking to DH, an Indian Railway official stated that no train services were affected following the accident.
