Congress on Friday announced the candidature of its MLA Satish Jarkiholi for Belagavi Lok Sabha segment by-poll, which is scheduled on April 17.
He will face Mangala Angadi from BJP.
The election was necessitated after the death of Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi in September last year.
Satish Jarkiholi is currently MLA from Yamakana Maradi Assembly segment and is also Congress state unit working president.
This year's election campaign will be interesting as Congress may use the sex scandal involving Satish’s brother Ramesh Jarkiholi to its advantage in the upcoming bypolls.
However, former minister Ramesh Jarkiholi having taken a backseat due to the scandal, the BJP has deployed Industries Minister Jagadish Shettar as in-charge of the Belgaum bypoll. Shettar’s son is married to Angadi’s daughter.
The Congress fielded former MP Chinta Mohan for the ensuing bye-election to Tirupati (SC) Parliamentary constituency of Andhra Pradesh. He will take on Karnataka Chief Secretary Ratna Prabha, who will fight from BJP.
