Court awards death penalty to three for double murder

The First Additional District and Session court in Madikeri on Friday awarded the death sentence to three twin-murder convicts.

HS Shivakumar, T E Shivakumar and Kumar, natives of Mallenahalli in Somwarpet, Kodagu district, are the convicts.

The trio had murdered Kochchunni and grandson Amrutananda when they resisted the robbery bid at Mallenahalli on the night of Feb 11, 2016.

The presiding officer of the court D Pavanesh, during the hearing, found that the suspects had tampered with the evidence. The judge, based on the deposition of the witnesses and, the evidence, found the trio of guilty of murder for gain. He awarded death penalty, to three convicts, subject to confirmation proceedings before the high court.

Public Prosecutor M Krishnaveni had argued for the state.
