Mangaluru: A team of officials conducted a raid on locations where illegal sand mining was taking place in Karnataka's Bantwal taluk and seized 23 boats.

Officials from revenue, mines and geology, and the police carried out a joint operation along the banks of the Nethravathi River at Valachil, Maripalla, Pudu, and other areas where sand was extracted illegally. The officials seized 23 boats worth Rs 46 lakh. All the seized boats have been placed at Adyar Katte.

The officials have been receiving complaints on illegal sand extraction in the region.

The raid was conducted under the guidance of Mangaluru Assistant Commissioner Harshavardhan by Mangaluru Tahsildar Prashanth Patil, Bantwal Tahsildar Archana Bhat, mines and geology officials Girish Mohan, Krishna Veni, Mahadeshwar and police personnel.
