The demand for Kaveri taluk with Kushalnagar as its headquarter has been finally fulfilled with the Cabinet taking a decision on the formation of Kaveri taluk.
It was the dream of former chief minister late R Gundurao to form Kaveri taluk by including Harnahalli hobli of Periyapattana taluk with Kushalnagar as its headquarters way back in 1993.
Accordingly, the offices of DySP, circle inspector, First Grade College, Polytechnic College, industrial layout at Kudlooru, Sports School at Koodige, DIET, training centre for forest officials, offices of the department of agriculture, sericulture, APMC and others were set up in Kushalnagar.
Recently, court, Government Engineering College, Kodagu Sainik School, PG Centre of Mangalore University at Chikka Aluvara and sub registrar’s office were set up in Kushalnagar.
Demanding Kaveri taluk, then Kushalnagar GP president H D Chandru had constituted Kushalnagar Taluk Kaveri Horata Samithi way back in 1997. The Samithi had submitted an appeal to the then chief minister, late J H Patel, during his visit to Talacauvery on September 14, 1997.
The Samithi was reconstituted in 2001 in the name of Kaveri Taluk Horata Samithi by including Suntikoppa and Kushalnagar hobli under the leadership of V P Shashidhar.
The Samithi had organised a series of protest, postcard campaign, roadblock, hunger strike, Bengaluru Chalo demanding Kaveri taluk in the last few years.
The Samithi members are happy over the cabinet deciding to form Kaveri taluk.
