Demanding action against the derogatory remarks on Jesus Christ in a social media post, Kodagu District Roman Catholic Association office-bearers staged a protest in front of DC’s office on Friday.

The protesters demanded the arrest of one Ravindra Gowda Patil who had put up a post demeaning Jesus Christ.

Office-bearer Fr Modalai Muthu said, “The photo of Jesus Christ is morphed and derogatory remarks are posted on Facebook. The post also speaks ill of Christians. The post has hurt the sentiments of the Christian community. Stringent action should be initiated against the accused.”

He said such individuals who post derogatory remarks conspire to disrupt peace in the society. The accused should be booked under the Goonda Act. As the Lok Sabha elections are fast approaching, miscreants are trying to disrupt peace in the society, he added.

District Roman Catholic Association President Joseph Sam said, “We have been living in harmony. We believe in peace. The post has saddened us.”

Condemning the post, Association General Secretary Johnson Pinto said a protest will be staged against the post in Bengaluru on January 3.

A memorandum will also be submitted to the home minister, he added.
