A wild elephant and a calf were run over by a goods train at Kaginahare — between Sakleshpur and Subramanya — in the taluk on Sunday night.
According to the railway police, the jumbos were on a bridge when the train hit them around 8.30 pm on Sunday. The rail route passes through the dense forests of the Western Ghats. The goods train was bound for Shivamogga from Mangaluru.
