Any misuse of Nanoscience would be the end of the world, warned Prof Karanam Uma Maheshwar Rao, NITK Surathkal director, on Thursday.

Prof Rao spoke after inaugurating the two-day international conference on nanotechnology (opportunities and challenges), organised in association with the University of Namur, Belgium, at L F Rasquinha Hall of St Aloysius College.

The field of nanotechnology offers immense scope for improvement. The benefits should be carefully exploited, said the director.

St Aloysius Educational Institutions rector Fr Dionysius Vaz presided over the programme.

College principal Fr Praveen Martis released the book of abstracts. Prof Zineb Mekhalif, director of Laboratory of Chemistry and Electrochemistry of Surfaces (CES), University of Namur, delivered the keynote address.

Richard Gonsalves, LCRI Block director, welcomed the gathering, seminar convenor Ronald Nazareth introduced the chief guest.
