Renowned academician and motivational speaker Gururaja Karajagi said that enthusiasm, hard work and compassion are the keys to success and happiness.
He was speaking during ‘Bhavishyada Dhaari’, a workshop for students, organised by Deccan Herald and Prajavani publications, in association with University of Mysore (UoM), at Senate Bhavan, Manasagangotri, in Mysuru on Friday.
Karajagi said, “Success is not just money, power or physical strength. Even though they are vital for a comfortable and healthy living, it is not all. Luck favours those who work hard.”
“We cannot list out all Presidents of India at one go. But, the unforgettable President is A P J Abdul Kalam. He had a child-like heart. The first phone call he made, after assuming office as President, was to his close friend Verghese Kurien, the legendary social entrepreneur. His conversation began thus: “I have a problem”. The problem was that he would get a salary, for being the President. For that, Kurien suggested him to divert the funds to his pet project Provision of Urban Amenities to Rural Areas (PURA). For many people, lack of money is problem. But, for Kalam, possession of money was a problem. Even though Mahatma Gandhi did not have any power or post, he is revered by all,” he said.
Inaugurating the event online, Vice-Chancellor G Hemantha Kumar said, “Children and youth need inspiration of seniors, to be successful and resourceful. Educated parents can guide their children on the right path. There are self-made successful people, who draw inspiration remotely, with hard work. But, generally such workshops help a lot of youth, to choose the right path.”
“The century-old UoM has taken up several steps for the welfare of its students, with focus on their future. While some students are under pressure to seek a job immediately after education, some aspire for higher studies. The UoM assists both,” he said.
Registrar R Shivappa said, “Past and present help us to mould our future. For a dynamic society to progress, we need lessons from history. Similarly, we learn from the experiences of our parents, grandparents, teachers and other seniors. Life lessons are as important as lessons of our courses. Events like ‘Bhavishyada Dhaari’ are a ray of hope at a time when we are facing the Covid crisis.”
Executive Editor of Prajavani Ravindra Bhat, General Manager (Circulation) Oliver Lesly Velitinger, owner of Mysore Tarpaulins Y Veerabhadra and president of Navodaya Foundation S R Ravi were present.
