The Urban Development Department has issued a gazette notification on the revised wards of Mangaluru City Corporation after finalising the draft list of delimitation of 60 wards as per the 2011 census.
The election to the council of Mangaluru City Corporation in 2019 will be conducted as per the delimited wards. The Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner and MCC commissioner have been directed to invite suggestions and objections to the delimited wards.
As per the request of the State Election Commission, the Urban Development Department had initiated the process of delimitation of wards in seven city corporations in the state. As per the guidelines of the department, the delimited map of 60 wards and revised voters list by the district administration was submitted to the Urban Development Department.
Any individual or political party or associations can submit the objections to the delimited wards within seven days to the DC or MCC Commissioner. The Urban Development Department has asked to submit a report based on the objections and suggestions.
The term of the present council of elected representatives in Mangaluru City Corporation will conclude in February 2019. The election must be held before the term concludes. After considering the suggestions and objections, the final list of wards will be published.
A source in the district administration said, “There is 10% change in the wards. A ward has been created for every 2,500 houses. The boundary of a majority of the wards has been changed.”
