The procession of the 96th year of Mangaluru Sharada, the oldest among Sharada Mahothsavas, began from Shri Venkataramana Temple Acharya Mutt in Car Street on Saturday night.

The immersion of the idol took place at Mahamayi Temple pond early Sunday.

The procession attracted a large number of devotees and tourists who made their way through the Mahamayi Temple, Gaddekeri, Navabharath Circle, Ammembala Subbarao Pai Road, Dongarakeri, New Chitra Talkies, Basavanagudi, Chamaragalli and Car Street before immersing the idol at Mahamaya Theertha.

The idol of Goddess Sharada was carried on the shoulders (bhuja seva) by volunteers and was accompanied by customised vehicles carrying Huli Vesha and other performers. Many performances had been planned to keep devotees entertained at Navabharath Circle, New Chitra junctions and other places.

As the deity was taken out in a procession, devotees offered arathi, fruits and other offerings.

The Sharada idol installed at Kudroli Gokarnanatha Temple was immersed in the temple lake after a nearly 16 hour-long procession on Saturday morning.
