Officers of Mangalore Air customs intercepted a passenger and seized 737 grams of gold worth Rs 33,75,470 that was smuggled into the country, at Mangalore International Airport (MIA) in the wee hours of Saturday.
According to officials, Koppa Mammini Khalid, aged 45, hailing from Koppa of Kerala had arrived at the airport from Dubai via Air India flight and tried to smuggle the gold by hiding it in his specially designed inner-wear.
The operation was led by Deputy Commissioner Avinash Kiran Rongali, along with superintendent rank officers Bhomkar, Rakesh Kumar and Bikram Chakraborty.
Further investigation is currently in progress.
