Higher Education Minister G T Devegowda on Thursday blamed the vice-chancellors and officials for the sorry state of the public universities in the state.
Speaking at the 3rd convocation of Reva University, presided over by Governor Vajubhai Vala, G T Devegowda said, “Private universities in our state are getting recognised at the International level. But the government officials and VCs are spoiling the name of the public universities. I would like them to visit your university to learn how to improve the quality of education in the government-run institutions and the public universities.”
He pointed out at the poor conditions of the government colleges. “There are some colleges in our state, which do not even have proper buildings. The public universities are not able to compete with the private ones despite the fact that the government sanctions crores for the higher education."
He said, “The future of this country is in the hands of students. Politicians will never work for the development of the country. They (students) should exercise their franchise judiciously.”
