Tiles and roofs of houses were damaged and electricity poles were uprooted following gusty wind coupled with rain that lashed Hosamajalu, Nekkilu, Pulithadi, Padpu, Pallejalu, Padyottu in Hirebandadi on Monday.
Trees fell on houses, toilets and cowsheds in the region and resulted in extensive damage. Several electricity poles have been uprooted in the region, incurring huge loss to Mescom.
A house was partially damaged when a tree fell on it, at Hosamajalu. The house belongs to Shashikala. The house of Varija in Darbe Uddaballi and toilet of Hasainar at Panimakke were damaged when trees fell on it.
Over 400 arecanut trees of Abdul Rahman Haji in Padpu, 50 arecanut trees of Devappa Pooja, 100 arecanut trees of Annu Gowda and 300 arecanut trees of Praveen Padyottu uprooted in the region.
At least six electricity poles in Hirebandadi and two poles near 34 Nekkiladi were uprooted. Mescom officials have rushed to the spot and are making efforts to restore power supply in the region.
In Moodbidri
The gusty wind coupled with rain in Moodbidri damaged 13 shops. The asbestos sheets of 13 shops flew away in the wind. As a result, rainwater entered the shops. MLA Umanath Kotian visited the spot and inspected the damage.
Moodbidri TMC Chief Officer Sheena Nayak promised to distribute relief of Rs 5,000 each to the affected merchants. The TMC has decided to make alternative arrangement for the affected merchants near dry fish stall.
