Demanding party tickets to the local leaders for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, former state president of the Indian Medical Association Dr H N Ravindra, along with like-minded people began a hunger strike in front of Visvesvaraya statue here on Sunday.
The protestors alleged that though there are several leaders in the district the parties consider outsiders while issuing the ticket for the elections. This has also hurt the sentiments and self-respect of Mandya people. JD(S) leader has made an irresponsible remark against Sumalatha Ambareesh on the International Women's Day, they criticised.
The hunger strike will be observed for three days. Leaders and party workers of the Congress, the BJP and the Raitha Sangha took part in the protest.
