Former MLA from Sagar, Belur Gopalakrishna, who has been denied the BJP ticket, on Tuesday said that he would neither join the Congress or the JD(S). At the same time, he would also not campaign in favour of the BJP candidate from Sagar, Haratalu Halappa, under any circumstance.
He was speaking at consultative meeting with his supporters here. He made it clear that he would not quit the BJP under any circumstance. He would meet the party leaders in Bengaluru on Wednesday and appeal them to reconsider their decision. After the meeting, he would take a call on his next political move.
Gopalakrishna broke down while addressing his supporters. He wept for a while saying that he had taken care of the constituency and the party more than his children and family in the last five years. His supporters pacified him.
Continuing his speech, he said, “I did not weep for not getting the ticket, but recalling people’s love and affection.”
Gopalakrishna claimed that though the survey conducted by the party leaders favoured his candidature from Sagar, the ticket has been denied to him. He urged the party leaders to inform the party workers the reasons for not giving him the ticket.
He said he would have backed any other candidate announced by the party but not Halappa.
