The department of pre-university education is contemplating on increasing the fine imposed on lecturers who commit errors at the time of evaluation. The fine is proposed to be increased from the existing Rs 2,000 to Rs 5,000 from this year. The move is aimed at holding the lecturers accountable.
Top sources in the department said the proposal was being sent to the principal secretary for approval.
“Every year, the department is taking stringent measures to minimise the number of errors during revaluation. This time, the department has proposed to increase it by Rs 3,000. Disciplinary action will be taken against the erring evaluators,” said the sources.
Shikha C, director, department of PU Education, said 86,000 students had applied to avail scanned copies. Results changed, post revaluation, for 2,400 students. There were a total of 36 lakh answer scripts.
“The department is consistently making efforts to avoid erratic evaluation. The department will propose increasing penalty on lecturers who do erratic evaluation,” she said.
According to sources in the PU department, while some students have a difference of just five marks, the highest difference in marks for a student, post revaluation, is 38. Ashia Siddiqui, who had secured 43 in economics, scored 81, post revaluation.
Raman, the father of one of the students who had applied for revaluation, blamed the department for not holding lecturers accountable. “My son got eight marks more in Chemistry. This will mean so much for availing a seat in college. This amounts to irresponsibility on the part of anyone evaluating the papers,” he complained.
