Indian Institute of Gems and Jewellery (IIGJ) was inaugurated by Union Commerce Minister Suresh Prabhu through video conference from Delhi in the city on Friday.
Speaking after the symbolic inauguration, Prabhu said that there was ample job opportunities that was being created in gems and jewellery sector.
There is good demand for the designers who can create ornaments of intricate designs. IIGJ opened in Udupi will cater to the need of youth who want to make their career in design field. This training institute aims to produce lakhs of designers, who are in demand in foreign countries too, he added.
