A Central team, led by Union Human Resources Development Ministry Additional Secretary S S Sandhu, visited the district after one year and inspected the site, reserved for the establishment of the Indian Institute of Information and Technology (IIIT) on Tuesday.
The officials obtained information about the 65 acres of land reserved for the purpose near Vadavati in the taluk and conducted a meeting later.
They discussed the availability of water, soil and transport with the district administration officials.
Union PWD chief engineer C N Roy and assistant engineer K M Suresh were the team along with State IIBT Department director R Girish, Dharwad IIIT’s Prof Deepak,
Bengaluru IIIT executive officer Jagadish Patil and Kanchipuram IIIT’s Basindar Machi.
The Union government had given approval for the establishment of the Raichur IIIT on January 25, 2018. It was expected to start classes from the academic year 2018-19.
