A Kambala jockey (who races along with a pair of buffaloes on a slushy track) has created a record by covering 100 metres in 9.15 seconds during Kantabare-Boodabare Kambala held at Aikala in Mulki on Saturday night.

The jockey is Vishwanath from Baindoor. The buffaloes are owned by Sathish Shetty and are named Bolla and Doni.

Vishwanath had completed the 125-metre-long track in 11.44 seconds. On calculating the speed versus distance, Vishwanath had covered 100 metres in just 9.15 seconds. Sensors were used to get an accurate result in the Kambala.

In the past, Akkeri Suresh Shetty had completed 100 metres in 9.37 second, Ashwathapura Srinivasa Gowda in 9.44 seconds and Irvathoor Anand in 9.57 seconds.

Srinivas Gowda, who had created several records during last year’s Kambala season, had suffered injuries during the first Kambala held at Hokkadigoli in Bantwal on January 30 but returned to the track at Aikala.
