The state government has reduced the ratio of candidates to be selected to Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) Mains (exams) through a Cabinet decision on Thursday.

According to the decision, the government has decided to cut down the ratio of candidates selected to the main examination from preliminary examination from 1:20 to 1:15. This decision has been taken as per the recommendation of the Hota Committee, Law Minister J C Madhuswamy said.

This apart, the government has also decided to upgrade the post of KPSC chairman to the grade of Chief Information Commissioner. Until now, the KPSC chief's post was at a lower scale and the government has decided to rectify it, the minister said.

However, even though the Hota committee recommends a search committee for appointment of KPSC members, the government has not approved the same, retaining its power in the selection of members.
