The Kushalnagar bandh call given by the Kaveri Taluk Horata Kendriya Samithi condemning the state government's failure to declare Kushalnagar Kaveri taluk in the budget received a good response on Monday.
All the merchants had downed the shutter of their business establishments in the morning.
All the business activities had remained silent following the bandh. Only a few private buses and maxicabs operated their services. The autorickshaws remained off the road.
Film theatres and hotels remained closed. As a result, the tourists who had visited from far away places had to struggle to get eatables.
Though the KSRTC buses operated, the number of passengers was minimal. A few of the private schools and colleges had declared holidays on account of the bandh.
A few visitors visited tourist spots of Kaveri Nisargadhama, Dubare, Harangi and others.
Members of various organisations staged a protest led by Samithi convener V P Shashidhar.
As a precautionary measure, the police had strengthened security in Kushalnagar. Superintendent of Police Suman D Pennekar visited Kushalnagar.
