Accusing the authorities of failing to provide basic facilities to Maddikere village in Oorubage Gram Panchayat in Gonibeedu hobli in Mudigere taluk, the village residents have warned of boycotting the election.

On the road leading to Maddikere, the villagers have already mounted a banner declaring their intention to boycott the election.

Speaking to DH, the villagers said, “There are 50 to 60 families residing in the village. The village is devoid of road, bridges and electricity connections. We had decided to boycott the previous Lok Sabha and Assembly election. However, the officials who visited the village had promised to provide basic facilities. Though Rs 1.40 crore was released for road work, the contractor has stalled the work without completing it. Without proper road connectivity, the villagers find it difficult in reaching the village. The work on the road has remained incomplete for the last four years.”

Two villagers, Manjunath and Mariyappa Gowda said, “Majority of the families eke out a living by farming. Out farmland is situated on the outskirts of the village. We have to cross River Hemavathi to reach our farmland. In spite of demanding a bridge across the river, no action has been initiated so far. We cannot visit our farmland during monsoon with the river overflowing in the region. The promise of a bridge by the elected representatives has not been fulfilled.”

The means of communication and transport facilities are still a distant dream in the village, said Nagesh Gowda.
