Sudharani Shivappa Manur of Maharashtra was the cynosure of all eyes at the 10th convocation of Akkamahadevi Women’s University here on Wednesday.

The girl from nondescript Bellundgi village in Jat taluk of Sangli district has secured five gold medals in MA Kannada.

“I’ve studied in Kannada medium from primary to postgraduation. Kannada has spurred me this far. I want to work in Karnataka after completing my PhD,” a beaming Sudharani told DH.

Daughter of a marginal farmer, Sudharani had secured rank in II PU and degree exams. Interestingly, no one from her family has studied beyond SSLC.

Geetha Jamdar, the daughter of an attender in the varsity, has secured three gold medals in MA economics.

Sharing her joy with DH, Geetha said, “My father wanted me to excel in studies. I am happy to have scored top marks and win three gold medals. Retired IAS officer S M Jamdar is my relative. I want to follow his suit. My dream is to become a KAS officer. I will give my best to crack the exams.”

Chandrakala Tadakal has secured four gold medals in MA Sociology. The golden girl from Moratgi has enrolled for PhD and is keen to take up teaching.
