The students of Government First Grade College in Byndoor observed International Women’s Day and raised funds for the welfare of soldiers.
The students put up stalls at the weekly shandy near Seneshwara Temple in Byndoor to raise the fund.
Students sold variety of homemade eatables and juices. ‘Banana Rasayana’, buttermilk, kokum juice, pista juice, lemon juice, eatables made of green gram, Idli and vada, churumuri, panipuri, veg pulav, veg biryani and cut mango, cucumber, watermelon, pineapple and ice cream are some dishes sold by the students. Juices were priced at Rs 10. Food items were named after women achievers, including Kittur Chennamma, Jhansi Ki Rani, Sister Nivedita, Annie Besant, Mary Currie, Kiran Bedi, Roopa Moudgil, Saina Nehwal, P V Sindhu, Sunita Williams, and others.
BCom student Latha Parshwanath Jain said, “After the success of food mela recently, we decided to take part in shandy market under the guidance of Principal Prof B A Meli, and coordinator Savitha S.”
Lecturer Shivakumar said, “Students were able to raise Rs 35,642 after selling eatables at shandy market. We have raised Rs 11,000 from the recently held food mela. A total of Rs 50,000 will be sent to Sainik Welfare.
