The Karnataka High Court on Thursday will hear a habeas corpus petition filed by a desperate autorickshaw driver to secure his only son who has gone missing from October 8.

When Shivakumar’s attempts to track his 19-year-old son Vinayaka went in vain, he approached courts and later filed a habeas corpus petition in the high
court.

In the petition, he has expressed suspicion on the role of former sub-inspector (SI) Madan behind the disappearance of Vinayaka.

Madan had contested the Legislative Assembly election from Mangaluru South as an Independent after tendering resignation to the post of sub-inspector in Bajpe police station.

Vinayaka, a second-year student of Aeronautical Engineering at Karavali College, like many youths, had volunteered to be a part of the electioneering and help Madan win the elections.

Madan had persuaded Vinayaka to be part of the extensive election campaign and the boy worked for Madan for about seven months. But Madan faced a humiliating defeat in the hustings and lost his deposit.

According to Vinayaka’s father, Madan had kept Vinayaka in his apartment in Bejai on the pretext of getting him a job, even after the electoral defeat.

Shivakumar, a native of Chikkamagaluru, has been staying in Mangaluru for past 20 years.

A resident of Shaktinagar, he said he has not received a single phone call from his son after his son’s disappearance.

“I have filed a complaint in Urwa police station on October 16,” he added.

The high court will begin its hearing into the habeas corpus petition from Thursday and has issued summons to Urwa police station sub-inspector Ravish and Madan.
