English Association of University College, Mangaluru, paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi through music and paintings at Ravindra Kalabhavan on Wednesday on Martyrs’ Day.

College Principal Dr Uday Kumar M A inaugurated the event titled ‘Remembering the Mahatma and Martyrdom’.

Vidwan Gurudas Shenoy and troupe paid a tribute with melodious music. The accomplished musician was accompanied by Taranath Joshi on Sitar, Raghunath Prabhu on Tabla, Lamburi by Manish Das, Gurudas Shenoy on Harmonium. Shanta Adiyar was the co-singer.

It is always believed that Mahatma lived even after death through artistic creations. Famous artists painted Mahatma Gandhi’s pictures in their own style. The event displayed 104 such cards with the name of the artist (four were with quotations). In fact, there were 208 paintings of Mahatma by legendary painters.

Mangalore University Political Science Department retired Chairman Dr Rajaram Tolpadi and others were present.
