Barring party lines, Members of Parliament from Karnataka on Thursday decided to stage a token protest in front of Mahatma Gandhi statue inside Parliament House complex over the issues of Mekedatu and Kalasa Banduri projects on December 27.

This protest to show the unity among Karnataka leaders for the project, said Union Minister for Chemical and Fertilizer D V Sadananda Gowda here.

Gowda, who chaired the meeting of Karnataka MPs to discuss the state water dispute issue, told reporters that the Karnataka MPs protest to counter Tamil Nadu MPs who have been stalling the Parliament pressing for the scrapping of Mekedatu project.

The leaders also decided to meet Union Water Resources Minister Nitin Gadkari on Kalasa Banduri project and to bring his notice about the project importance to Karnataka.

In the meeting, Union Defence Minister Nirmala Seetharaman, Union Minister of State for Skill Development Ananth Kumar Hegde, Minister of State for Drinking Water and Sanitation Ramesh Jigajinagi, Former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, Water Resources Minister from Karnataka D K Shivakumar attended.
