‘Modernisation of Police Department need of the hour’

There is a need to modernise the Police Department and police personnel should be given better facilities, said Deputy Commissioner Dr Bagadi Gautham.

Speaking at the Police Flag Day organised by the Police Department, at Ramanahalli DAR maidan on Tuesday, he said, “There are Maoist hideouts in the district. The Police Department should use modern technology. Modern arms and ammunition should be provided to the personnel.”

Further, he said, “Police personnel spend a majority of their time on duty and do not get to spend time with their families. Better facilities should be provided to the police personnel.”

Retired ASI B H Vijayakumarswamy said, “In the past, a PSI could not directly meet the SP. Now, the scenario has changed. The Police Department has become one family.”

Superintendent of Police Harish Pande said, “The Police Welfare Fund had Rs 7.95 lakh and has received interest of Rs 11,600. With the sale of police flag stickers, a sum of Rs 3.88 lakh was collected. In 2018-19, a sum of Rs 11.95 lakh was collected.”

About Rs 5.58 lakh has been utilised for the medical expenses of 114 retired police officers and other police personnel.

Police informers D Ravi, Mansoor Ahmmed, Govindaswamy, M Harish, Peter Abraham, Nagesh Angeerasa were felicitated on the occasion.

Indian Medical Association members also conducted a health check-up of retired police personnel. District Legal Services Authority member secretary Basavaraj Chengati and others were present.
