The Mangalore University will offer three certificate courses in Botany under its undergraduate programme and the academic council has approved the syllabus.
The Botany Board of Studies of the undergraduate programme has prepared the syllabus of the certificate courses in Horticultural Practices and Post-harvest Technology, soil testing, nursery, gardening and floriculture.
Short-term courses
The Centre for Women’s Studies has proposed to offer three short-term training programmes in para legal practices, training in entrepreneurship skill development and training course in gender and counselling.
The Centre will also offer two elective papers in gender and development, and women and entrepreneurship development.
A draft statute governing the establishment of the Department of Tourism Administration at Mangalore University. The statute will come into effect from the date of assent of the Chancellor of the University. In addition, the MA in Tourism and Travel Management (MBL-TTM), Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy programmes will be offered by the Department.
Faculty of Law
Acting Vice Chancellor Prof Ishwara P said that the Mangalore University proposes to start Master of Law (LLM) programme from the academic year 2019-20.
The duration of the programme is one academic year. The regulation of the course has been sent to the Chancellor for approval. A candidate who has passed three or five years of the LLB degree from any Indian or foreign university recognised by the UGC with at least 50% marks or an equivalent grade is eligible for admission, the professor added.
Gold medals
The Academic Council on Friday approved the institution of three gold medals for PG students. In the name of Prof Jogan Shankar, PhD students have decided to institute a gold medal and have paid Rs 1.5 lakh to the University. Accordingly, the gold medal will be given to the top scorer in MA Sociology.
The pending amount of Rs 1.5 lakh from conducting international conference on recent advancement in Material Science and Biophysics 2018, it has been decided to utilise the amount for instituting gold medal for first rank-holder in MSc Physics. Prasanna Kumar Rai, convener of Prof K Byrappa Sanmana Samithi has instituted a gold medal in name of Prof Byrappa, former vice chancellor of Mangalore University.
The Samithi has also instituted an endowment lecture in honour of Prof Byrappa. As endowment lecture in the name of Prof A K Baradol in the Department of Library and Information Science.
The institution of an endowment lecture in memory of international conference on recent advancement in Materials Science and Biophysics 2018 was also approved in the Academic Council.
