The pothole-ridden Charmadi Ghat on NH 234 that connects Mudigere taluk with the coastal district is causing inconvenience to the vehicle users.
The first curve on Charmadi Ghat from Malaya Marutha near Kottigehara is filled with huge potholes, posing a threat to the lives of riders of light vehicles.
Two-wheeler riders cannot ride safely on the stretch. There are several instances of riders falling on the road and fracturing their legs on Charmadi Ghat.
After the closure of Shiradi Ghat during the monsoon, there was huge traffic on Charmadi Ghat. As a result, the stretch is in a deplorable condition from Ujire to Kottigehara.
Lorry driver Ramesh said, “It is a nightmarish journey on Charmadi Ghat. The tourist vehicles drive rashly. It is a challenge to drive without causing an accident.”
The National Highway Authority of India has taken up the work on widening the stretch from Bidarahalli to Kottigehara. The work on minor bridges is in progress.
