No respite on banks of swollen Kapila

The flood-like situation on the banks of River Kapila did not ease on Sunday though the quantum of discharge from Kabini dam was reduced to 40,500 cusec from the maximum of 80,000 cusec.

As much as 80,000 cusec of water was released from Kabini dam since Thursday night as the inflow into reservoir went up following heavy rain.

The Mysuru-Ooty National Highway in Nanjangud continued to be under water and vehicles took alternative route.

Suttur bridge at Suttur was submerged affecting movememnt of vehicles. Water has gushed into agricultural fields in Nagarle, Biligere, Sargur, Thummanerale, Hosakote and adjoining villages.

As the burial grounds in Nanjangud town has been flooded, the family members of three dead persons had to face hardship to perform the final rites. While one body was cremated in Mysuru, the authorities made arrangements for the cremation of other two bodies on Nanjangud-Chamarajanagar Road.

As many as 120 people of 45 families have taken shelter in Girija Kalyanmantap in the town.

The ramp of Hejjige bridge, which is inundated, has developed crack. According to the officials, the water level in the river is likely to recede as the outflow from Kabini dam has come down.
