A public interest litigation has been filed seeking directions to appoint Judicial Inquiry Commission to inquire into the recent floods resulting in landslides and marooning of 32 villages in Kodagu district.
The petitioner has stated that the reason for the disaster can be attributed for not opening of the crest gates of the Harangi dam on time which lead to gushing of water leading to stagnation.
This has resulted in loss of human and animal lives and residential properties in and around Makkandur area in Kodagu district that consists of 32 tiny villages.
The petition also seeks directions to the Judicial Commission to submit a report on the rehabilitation and compensation measures to be provided to the victims of the calamity and place the same before the court.
