Tourism Minister Sa Ra Mahesh on Tuesday said there are plans to introduce boating at the moat around the fort to attract more tourists.
Speaking to reporters after visiting Srirangapatna fort, moat, Nimishamba, and Sri Ranganathaswami temples in the taluk, Mahesh said, the moat surrounding the historical fort would be cleaned, filled with Cauvery river water and then boating will be introduced.
The government has released Rs 20 crore for taking up cleaning of the fort and moat, road widening and streetlights, the minister said.
A park would be developed in front of the Sri Ranganathaswami temple and separate parking arena identified, he added.
The tourist places in the taluk will be getting basic
facilities like high-tech
toilets and a sum of Rs 20 lakh has already been released, he said.
MLA Raveendra Srikantaiah said, there is a need of around Rs 300 crore for the development of
Srirangapatna and projects should be planned to attract more foreign tourists and also fetch profit to the government exchequer.
