Plays get patronage during Dasara

Visitors to the city of palaces enjoy various events like water sports, cultural events, heli-ride, paragliding, art exhibition, sports activities, food festival, etc during Dasara. Even theatre lovers rejoice during the fest by watching various mythological and social theme plays staged at C V Rangacharalu Town Hall in the city.

Earlier, it was believed that there was no patronage to plays during Dasara at the Town Hall, but this time, several theatre lovers are thronging the Town Hall.

Narayana Dundedappa Pattar, director of ‘Sri Krishna Parijatha’, a mythological play, from Kansangeri in Bagalkot district, said, “There has been a good response from the audience for plays in the city. Though ‘Sri Krishna Parijatha’ is presented in the style of Bagalkot region, the audience have welcomed it.”

B Sudesh, a native of Madikeri, who resides in Bengaluru, said, “I came from Bengaluru to watch the plays. Since childhood, I am a theatre enthusiast. I never miss plays. Usually, during Dasara, I come to Mysuru to watch plays in the Town Hall. Though I am busy with my work, I watch at least one play and return to Bengaluru.”

C Janardhan, a government school teacher from Nanjangud, said, “The Dasara Committee has taken up the initiative to exhibit good plays during the Dasara fest. The committee should also stage award-winning plays, along with mythological and social theme ones during Dasara”.

He said, the Dasara committee should give more publicity to theatre art, especially the plays staged during Dasara in the Town Hall. Rangaswamy, a stage officer in the Town Hall, said, the audience have encouraged all types of plays, including mythology and social theme ones.

From the beginning of Dasara, several people have been visiting the Town Hall to watch the plays.

There has been a good response from the audience for theatre art, he said.
