Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G Sankar lauded Akshaya Patra Foundation's efforts in serving sumptuous midday meals to 1.76 million schoolchildren, across 12 states in the country.

Participating in a programme organised by the foundation at Sarada Vilas Centenary Hall, Krishnamurthypuram, here, on Monday, he said that it is the responsibility of all to ensure a hunger-free society, especially schoolchildren. Akshaya Patra, a non-profit organisation is doing service, inspiring thousands of children to return to school and to check school dropouts, he said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, commemorated the foundation’s serving of cumulative three billionth meal at an event at Vrindavan, Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. Similar programmes were held at all Akshaya Patra branches in the country.

The live coverage of the programme was telecast at Sarada Vilas Centenary Hall. The Prime Minister interacted with the students. Sripathi Dasa of the foundation was present.

Rasika Shekara Dasa, vice president of Iskcon, Mysuru, explained about the standards maintained in cooking and distribution of Akshaya Patra meals through a video presentation.
