Higher Education Minister G T Devegowda on Thursday said that his department would initiate action against private universities enrolling more students than the allotted strength.

Replying to Appaji Gowda (JD-S) in the Legislative Council, Devegowda said that excepting Alliance University and Azim Premji University, 13 other universities would be reviewed by the Karnataka State Higher Education Council.

He said that varsities including PES University, M S Ramaiah Applied Sciences University, Reva University and Dayanand Sagar University had already been reviewed by the Council and that a report would be submitted shortly.

Replying to Pratap Chandra Shetty (Congress) on the vacancies in government PU colleges, Devegowda said that soon after the Finance department gives its approval, the department will start appointing principals and lecturers.

On the delay in appointments of vice-chancellors to various universities, the minister said that the department had prepared a list of eligible candidates, and that the appointments would be made soon.
