JD(S) district spokesperson P S Bharat Kumar has urged for a probe into the poor work of the new private bus stand in the city.

He said there are speculations over the misappropriation of funds in the project.

He has said that the concerned authorities have cheated people by making them believe that the private bus stand is a state-of-the-art building.

There are no scientific applications in the construction of the bus stand. The work is ordinary, he said and added that the bus stand which had built hopes among people, has not been shifted so far and hasn’t been made open for public use.

After a lot of dilly-dallying, the City Municipal Council decided to finish the works in a hurry as the Assembly elections were nearing.

The bus stand inauguration programme, which was conducted even before the completion of the work, was only an eyewash. Forget about modern facilities, the bus stand does not even have a state-of-the-art look, pointed out Bharat Kumar.

He alleged that looking at the poor work, there is a high possibility of misappropriation of funds. It is said that Rs 4.95 crore grant has been utilised towards the bus stand work.

The construction of toilets, too, is unscientific. The toilets for ladies and gents are constructed under a single roof with a common entrance, which will cause a huge embarrassment to women passengers.

“Despite substandard work, the complete amount has been paid to the contractor. Looking at the hasty bill payment without ensuring the quality, it is speculated that the CMC President and Commissioner have violated the norms,” said the JD(S) leader.
