Dr M Mohan Alva, chairperson of the Moodbidri-based Alva’s Education Foundation (AEF), has urged people to protect regional languages from external influence.

He was speaking during the ‘Alva’s Samskritika Vaibhava’ organised by the Alva’s Education Foundation and the Alva’s Nudisiri Virasat Committee, Kalasa, at the government high school open air auditorium on Wednesday.

Dr Alva said that Kannada is the language of the land and one should not let its reputation be damaged by the IT-BT revolution.

“Although countries like China and Japan have been a part of globalisation, they have retained the dignity of their respective languages. In our state, Kannada medium schools should have facilities on par with English medium schools. The government Kannada medium schools should be developed by people,” he suggested.

Alva also opined that one should not consider folk arts as a medium of entertainment. Folk arts reflect our culture, he added.

Cultural programmes were organised on the occasion.

MLA Kumaraswamy M P, former MLA B B Ningaiah and Kalasa Gram Panchayat president Rati were present.
