The evaluators of second year pre-university examination answer papers are yet to get their renumeration- two months after the completion of their work.

Over 17,000 pre-university college teachers participated in the evaluation of II PU answer scripts and they get around Rs 10,000 for this purpose. However, the lecturers are yet to be paid.

The Karnataka Pre-University College Teachers’ Association has submitted a representation to the principal secretary to Primary and Secondary Education Department, warning that they would boycott the evaluation of supplementary examinations scheduled for June.

Thimmaiah Purle, president of the Association, said, “The government threatens of invoking the Essential Services Maintenance Act whenever we warn of boycotting evaluation. Now, the same government is delaying our payment though we have completed the work entrusted to us.”

The Association members alleged that though funds were released from Finance Department, the PU department was delaying transfer of money. “The previous system was better where we could collect cheque. Now, the department credits the remuneration to our bank accounts and this is causing a delay. If the department fails to pay us, we will boycott evaluation of supplementary exams,” Purle added.

A senior official from the department of pre university education said, “We have not received funds from Finance department completely. We have started transfer of whatever funds we received. We have also communicated to government requesting for release of rest of the funds.”
