Villagers of Bethu staged a protest on Napoklu-Parane Road urging the authorities concerned to complete the repair of the road immediately.
If the work is not taken up, a stern protest will be carried out by blocking the road, they said.
Speaking on the occasion, Congress leader Harish Bopanna said that when M R Seetharam was the district in-charge minister, Rs 7 crore was released for the development of Napoklu-Parane Road in 2017-18.
“The work has not been completed till today. Also, the work has not been done as per the estimated cost. The quality of the work is poor. The asphalt has worn out within a week. Work near Government School in Bethu has been stopped,” he said and warned of intensifying the protests if the work is not continued within a week.
Gram Panchayat former member Machettira Kushu Kushalappa said that a protest will be staged against the contractor if the work is not completed.
Coffee Board former vice president Sannuvanda Kaverappa said that the public is facing hardships due to the apathy of the authorities. Vehicles passing on the road are getting damaged.
Gram Panchayat former president Ismail, Gram Panchayat president H S Parvathy, members Yashoda, Kaleyanda Saba Thimmaiah, leaders Harish Ponnaiah, Bollyapada Roshan, Keekanda Sudhi, Chokira Sudhi Appaiah and Chokira Ratish were present, among others.
