Strongly condemning the 84th Akhila Bharatha Kannada Sahitya Sammelana’s resolution opposing the introduction of English medium in 1,000 government schools, PWD Minister H D Revanna said that he disagrees with the decision of the writers.

Speaking to reporters, Revanna charged that the writers are hypocritical in their stance.

“Why should the children of the poor be deprived of the privilege? The resolution passed by the Sammelana is not right. I condemn it. Does this mean that only the children of Revanna, Kumaraswamy and Parameshwara should be in English medium schools? Why don’t the poor students deserve to study in English medium schools?” he questioned.

Revanna also said that instead of resolving to oppose the introduction of English medium in government primary schools, the Sammelana should have passed a resolution to close down all the English medium schools in the state.

“Let the writers take a decision to close all the English medium schools. I will support that. Let all students study in Kannada medium schools. Putting a restriction on English education is not right. Why should there be one law for the rich and one law for the poor? We will take an appropriate decision in the Cabinet,” he added.

He also appealed to senior Congress leader and former chief minister Siddaramaiah not to support the Sammelana’s decision.
