RS nod to Bill granting ST tag for Parivara, Talawara

The Rajya Sabha on Thursday approved the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Second Amendment) Bill, 2019, which allowed to include 'Parivara and Talawara' and Siddi Community people living in Belagavi and Dharwad district in Scheduled Tribe category.

The Bill which was moved in Rajya Sabha in last session was passed. Now the bill will go to the Lok Sabha for nod.

The Union Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 2018 approved the inclusion of the communities 'Parivara and Talawara' as synonym of "Nayaka' in the list of STs in Karnataka. The cabinet also gave its nod to include Siddi community living outside Uttar Kannada or living Belgaum and Dharwad districts in the Scheduled Tribe category.

Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi ,Rajya Sabha members including K C Ramamurthy, Prabhakar Kore, Kupendra Reddy and B K Hariprasad spoke in favour of the bill.

Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Renuka Singh Saruta said once the bill became act, persons belonging to "Parivara' and Talawara' communities and Siddi community living in Dharwad and Belagavi will eligible to get the Scheduled Tribe certificate from the State of Karnataka and will also be eligible for all benefits meant for the Scheduled Tribes in the State.
