On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, Codava National Council (CNC) will organise a seminar at Capital Village, on the city’s outskirts, on March 21.
Addressing reporters, CNC president N U Nachappa said that member of Legislative Council B K Hariprasad, Adaguru H Vishwanath, Budakattu Kuruba Sangharsha Samiti president Lakkavalli Manjunath and Virat Hindusthan Sangam national general secretary Jagadish Shetty will take part in the inaugural function to be held at 10.30 am.
Nachappa also urged the government to consider the Kodava tribe as the aboriginal primitive tribe of Kodagu.
“The tribe should be enlisted in the schedule as per the articles 340 and 342 of the Indian Constitution,” he said.
Kodava Thakk, the mother tongue of the Kodava tribe, should be included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. Kodava tradition should be added to the Intangible cultural heritage list of Unesco, he added.
CNC leaders Chambanda Janath, Pullera Kalappa, Porimanda Dinamani, Cholappanda Nanaiah and Pudivokkada Kashi were present.
