The Shiradi Ghat stretch on the Bengaluru-Mangaluru highway in Sakleshpur taluk, which was closed after heavy landslides, will be opened for movement of light motor vehicles on Wednesday, said Deputy Commissioner Rohini Sindhuri.
Speaking to reporters, the DC said, the roads have been damaged on the stretch due to heavy rains and landslides. “Emergency repair works have been taken up.
The officials of the National Highways Authority of India have written a letter saying that experts have directed to open the road for movement of light motor vehicles.
Based on this letter, it has been decided to open the road for traffic. A discussion will be held with Dakshina Kannada DC and an order will be issued in this connection. The NHAI should take the responsibility, in case of any mishap during vehicular movement,” she said.
It may be mentioned that the Shiradi Ghat stretch, which was closed on January 15 for concretisation, was opened in the second week of July for traffic. But, it was closed again for traffic on August 15 due to landslides at several places following heavy rain.
