Activist and ESI Hospital Grievance Committee member Sudatta Jain Shirtadi has urged the district administration to address the irregularities in the Government Lady Goschen Hospital.
He has also accused the hospital medical superintendent Dr Savitha of misappropriation and demanded stern action against her.
Addressing a press meet at the Patrika Bhavan in Mangaluru, he said that a woman from Kakkepadavu in Bantwal was admitted at the hospital. As there were no facilities in the government hospital, her family incurred Rs 30,000 towards the treatment, he charged.
Jain also accused the hospital of not providing hot water to the patients. “The nurses behave rudely with the patients,” he added.
Dr Savitha, however, has denied that the hospital has collected the amount from the patients.
“When a woman came for delivery to the hospital, her condition was very severe as she had a ‘HELLP’ syndrome, which causes problems with a pregnant woman’s blood, liver and blood pressure,” she explained.
Speaking further, the medical superintendent said, “The woman was, therefore, referred to KMC Hospital, Attavar. After her delivery, the mother and child were readmitted to Lady Goschen Hospital. The child was underweight. It was due to the government hospital’s efforts that the child’s health has improved.”
