The state government on Tuesday said it will abide by the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) direction to release 9.19 tmcft water to Tamil Nadu if the inflow to the reservoirs is good.
“We respect CWMA direction to Karnataka. Water will be released if the inflow is good in the month of June. We are expecting good monsoon rains next month,” Water Resources Minister D K Shivakumar told reporters on seeking his reaction to the direction.
He said Karnataka will seek implementation of the distress-sharing formula if the monsoon fails or if there is delay in rainfall. The government is currently taking legal
opinion on the issue. If necessary, the government will convene an all-party meeting and take appropriate decision,” he stated.
