The state government will soon write to the Centre seeking information on the whereabouts of seven fishermen on board fishing vessel Suvarna Tribhuja, the wreckage of which was found by the Indian Navy recently, Home Minister M B Patil said on Thursday.

Though the Navy found the vessel four-and-a-half months after it went missing, it was silent on the missing fishermen. The family members of these fishermen are concerned about it. The government will write to the Centre, seeking information on the fishermen, he told reporters.

He also said the government is gathering information on how the vessel met with an accident.

There are speculation among a section of fishermen that the vessel was wrecked after a Navy warship accidentally ploughed into it. Former Congress minister Pramod Madwaraj had recently blamed the Navy for the accident and demanded a high-level probe.
