Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis directed the officials to prepare an estimate and detailed project report on floating jetties and restaurants to promote tourism in the district.
Chairing a meeting on Tuesday, she spoke on Coastal Karnataka Master Plan and development of tourist spots in the district. The government has appointed consultants to prepare the Master Plan for the development of tourism on the coast.
The floating jetties have been attracting the tourists on the shores abroad. The district administration is mulling over constructing floating jetties at six locations in Udupi. In addition, there is a proposal to construct a jetty at St Mary’s Island. The floating restaurants will also attract tourists.
A help desk will be set up in Padubidri and Trasi beaches for the tourists. The authorities are planning for a single window system for approving permissions to tourist spots.
The deputy commissioner said that the proposal on imposing fine on those who use plastic in St Mary’s Island in Malpe will be looked into seriously.
